Karen Ward and Dolores Whelan on the Hill of Faughart at the beginning of the Brigid's Way pilgrimage, July 7th 2013.
There was a beautiful ceremony around the sacred well of Brigid at the start of the historic pilgrimage.
Anthony Murphy, co-author of 'Island of the Setting Sun' and discoverer of the Brigid Way alignment, is led down to the well by Dolores Whelan and Karen Ward.

The pilgrimage coincided with one of the hottest spells of summer weather in years. A heatwave lasted throughout the whole nine days of the journey. It was the best summer spell since 1995.
A ceremony took place at the shrine at Faughart before the walkers headed towards Dundalk.
