Newgrange Site A
| Site A is a sizeable tumulus located southeast of Newgrange. It sits in direct alignment with the Winter Solstice sunrise as viewed from Newgrange, but is much lower down than the rising sun. The site has not been excavated, and is protected from damage by cattle by means of an electric fence. According to George Coffey (1912): "A is 220 feet in circumference and about the same height. The measurements are approximate." |
| The mound is surrounded by an embankment which has been largely ploughed away. The denuded earthwork is roughly circular in plan with a maximum external diameter of 175m.
