Site
U (ruined mound) - aligned with Newgrange for equinox
| This
'pile of stones' is marked on maps as being site U, and is located
due east of Newgrange,
and hence they are both aligned with the Equinoctial Sun. George
Coffey (1912) marks them on his map as "stones". It seems
these boulders are all that remains of what may have been a mound,
which was mostly destroyed probably before the turn of the 20th
century. There are traces of milky quartz, the same stone which
was used at Newgrange, scattered in the field around this site. |

| Archaeologist Clare
O'Kelly* said about this site: " . . . less than half a mile
east of Newgrange is a site that may be a destroyed passage grave
(site U) also with the remains of a kerb . . ."
