MOONWALK ONE - GAINS LIFT OFF

The original NASA movie “Moonwalk One” first produced in 1969 to capture the social documentation of American society and those directly involved with the successful Apollo 11 mission to land a man on the moon has now begun with the restoration of film currently in process and the double DVD set planned for release on 16 June 2009.

Independent production company The Attic Room, (producers Chris Riley, Duncan Copp and David Fairhead) has formed a consortium with Molinare, bhp group and Sister to work on the project; with the final Moonwalk One DVD set being ready for retail and worldwide distribution by 16 June 2009 one month prior to the official 40th Anniversary of the flight of Apollo 11. Chris Riley says “We first tracked down the film’s director Theo Kamecke when we were working on our last feature film “In the Shadow of the Moon”. We couldn’t believe it when he said he’d still got a 35mm print of the film, and since then we’ve been working with him to restore and re-release “Moonwalk” in time for this summer’s anniversary. Without the generous support and help of our partners Molinare, Bhp group and Sister this project would not have happened. But now thanks to their commitment driving the project forward we have everything in place to successfully produce and release on DVD for the first time the director’s cut of this historic movie”.

The Molinare TV and Film facility located in Carnaby, Soho is currently in charge of restoring the film for the online edit and new sound mix of Moonwalk One. Molinare will produce the final Director’s Cut in both its original 4:3 format and a special wide screen version. Added extras will include Theo Kamecke’s reaction at viewing the restored picture for the first time since the early 1970s, and a special “Making of” film which tells the extraordinary behind the scenes story of how NASA’s official documentary film was made.

Steve Milne, Director, Molinare says; “Following our work with the team on their last film “In the Shadow of the Moon”, we were delighted to bring our film restoration expertise to bear on NASA’s original documentary about the Apollo moon shots. We’ve developed considerable expertise at handling priceless archive film like this over the last few years – but this project has to be one of the most iconic moments of the 20th Century to be working with, and that’s a great thrill!”.

Finally the edited HD-Cam Masters will be handed over to bhp group who will then record the Director’s commentary and an exclusive interview with Theo Kamecke as another added feature for the DVD set. All of the elements will then be compiled and formed into a 2 disk DVD set with menu’s and artwork created by the bhp group. Daniel Moult, Commercial Manager & Head of Operations, bhp group says; “Being able to bring our experience of post production, design and DVD authoring to this project has allowed us to once again showcase our company’s facilities and expertise in this field ”

The Moonwalk One project is currently being promoted to the UK and International media by Sister, a consumer communications agency from London W1 and there is significant interest world wide for the film’s story which has every chance of becoming the latest “water cooler” conversation for 2009.

Sarah Millar, Managing Director, Sister says; “Our agency has established itself over the years as one of the best in delivering powerful and imaginative pr strategies and campaigns for our clients. The Moonwalk One project is yet another opportunity for us to creatively introduce what we consider to be a unique entertainment and educational product to the UK and International media”.

What do you feel is the most controversal NASA mission? I need to figure out my proposal for the IBO's Extended Essay. I want to do something NASA oriented since this is my area of interest. However, I need to narrow it down to something specific in order for it to follow IBO's guidelines. Im thinking this topic will fall under "History" so i was thinking that if i concentrated on the most controversal NASA mission, i can talk about the viewpoints, motivations, benefits of said mission.
