MARCH 2008 - OFFERINGS FOR SAINT BRIGID
Bits and Bobs for Saint Brigid

Odds and ends . . . just a few of the multitude of offerings left at the holy well of Saint Brigid at Faughart, near Dundalk, County Louth, coming up to her feast on February 1st. On that date, lavish ceremonies are held in honour of Brigid, who was said to have been born af Faughart. These include a candlelit procession in darkness from the well and graveyard down to the shrine, where there are a number of "healing stones". It is a truly beautiful place, with fantastic views of Slieve Gullion to the west and the Cooley Mountains to the north and northeast. Faughart also overlooks Dundalk Town and Dundalk Bay.
