The mist-shrouded hills of Loughcrew created an eerie sense of being suspended between earth and sky on the Autumn Equinox 2008. The biggest crowd so far recorded at Cairn T for an equinox was on the Sunday morning, September 21st. By the time of sunrise at 7.10am, 105 people had gathered to try and get a glimpse at the equinox illumination of the rear chamber of Cairn T. However, the weather played its part in making sure the spectacle didn't happen - except for the briefest of glimpses after 8am. This did not deter the crowd who enjoyed the sight of the surrounding hills disappearing and reappearing as the fog rolled across the landscape. |
