The famous Boyne river, pictured from the air. This section of the river is just east (downriver) from the great Bend of the Boyne at Brú na Bóinne and shows the river's eastward course through Oldbridge and on towards Drogheda and the sea. The bridge in the foreground is known locally as the Obelisk Bridge, because an obelisk commemorating the Battle of the Boyne (fought in this location in 1690) stood beside the bridge from 1736 until it was blown up by the IRA in 1923.
