A weir on the River Boyne at Ardmulchan, Co. Meath
A weir on the River Boyne at Ardmulchan, Co. Meath
The Boyne River rises near the hill of Carbury in County Kildare and meets the Irish Sea just east of Drogheda, between Baltray on the north shore and Mornington to the south. It is a large but relatively slow-moving river and much of its course runs through the fertile farmlands of County Meath. In places, there are cateracts and weirs, but there are no waterfalls, since the Boyne crosses a relatively smooth and flat landscape.
This image, showing the water excitedly crossing a fish weir on the River Boyne at Ardmulchan, in the evening sun, was taken in something of a precarious position. I was situated on the very edge of the river, with my feet in shallow water, and with the camera on a tripod whose legs were immersed in the fast-flowing river. I wanted to get as close to the water as possible without endangering myself, and this is the result. I hope you like this unique view of the Boyne.

Unique
I am one of Ireland's best-known ancient monuments photographers. I have an eye for evocative imagery that reminds the viewer of the timelessness of the mythical Irish landscape.
