The prehistoric complex of Brú na Bóinne is contained within a great bend or loop in the river Boyne - leading to the description of the area as the 'Bend in the Boyne'. The river traces its course mostly through County Meath, although its source is in County Kildare, and it empties into the Irish Sea between County Louth and County Meath east of Drogheda.
