Boyne Valley Bridge and car

The Mary McAleese Boyne Valley Bridge carries the M1 motorway over the river Boyne just west of the city of Drogheda. The A-frame suspension bridge is illuminated at night, and if you are there at twilight, the blue hues are matched by the deepening azures of the evening or morning sky.

For this photograph, I stood on the public pathway that runs alongside the public road from Drogheda to Oldbridge, passing beneath the great bridge. Using a fisheye (super wide-angle) lens, I wanted to capture a view conveying the sense of local traffic beneath the inter-city traffic that zooms across the bridge at all hours of the night and day.

The headlights of an oncoming car, heading into Drogheda from Oldbridge, streak through this long-exposure photograph. I hope you like it.
