Knowth Samhain Sunset
Knowth Samhain Sunset
I have captured many views of the great Knowth monument over the years. Sometimes, when you are there at sunrise or sunset, the most beautiful scenes can emerge. This photograph was taken just as the tourist season was ending at Knowth, on the last day when visitors were allowed for that year. The monument would fall silent for several months until it was re-opened to tourists the following spring. As the sun went down, the mackerel sky was beautifully illuminated with reds and oranges. Knowth is the largest passage-tomb in Ireland and is surrounded by 18 satellite or smaller mounds, in addition to other features. The excavations at Knowth began in 1962 and lasted for 40 years, under the direction of the late Professor George Eogan.

Unique
I am one of Ireland's best-known ancient monuments photographers. I have an eye for evocative imagery that reminds the viewer of the timelessness of the mythical Irish landscape.
