There are winter days when you want to stay in bed and enjoy the warmth. Often, it is still dark when we rise in the midwinter mornings of December. Today, I took a look out the window after getting up and instantly decided that I would drive out to Brú na Bóinne to fly my drone.
There was fog, and it was cold, and the sun was about to rise. I drove to Newgrange Farm, parked my van and unpacked the drone. The fog was thick. Too thick for a flight. So I sat and waited for the inevitable "burn-off" that happens as the sun rises higher in the sky on a foggy morning.
When the time seemed right, I launched the drone into the sky, and immediately pointed it towards the great monument of Newgrange. Within a minute or two, I had captured what I have no doubt will become one of my all-time favourite photographs of this exceptional monument.
