Orion carries the moon through the sky over Knowth. What a wonderful night at the 5,000-year-old monument of Knowth on 5th February 2020 (a day after Imbolc!), where a public star- and moon-gazing evening was held, organised by the Office of Public Works and the Irish Astronomical Society. A rare opportunity for me to visit Knowth at night and capture some of its nocturnal beauty. Love this shot. The moon is in the hand of Orion, between the feet of Gemini, the twins, and the horns of Taurus the Bull. This is the highest point of the ecliptic, where the sun is located at summer solstice. Members of the IAS were on hand to allow the public to view the moon, the Orion Nebula, the Pleiades and other night sky objects through binoculars and telescopes. A very enjoyable event!
